Sentry Tournament of Champions Preview

Golf is back! Welcome to the 2023 season, and we are ready for the season. Just like every year the Sentry Tournament of Champions is a limited-field event that is hosted at  Kapalua Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. To get an invite to this event the players will have needed to win a PGA Tour event in the previous season (2022).

The Kapalua Plantation Course Overview

The Kapalua Plantation Course was designed by golf course architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Their design captures the unique beauty of the West Maui Mountains and the coastal landscape of the Kapalua Resort. The course features dramatic elevation changes, sweeping ocean views, and stunning fairways and greens. The original design of the course was completed in 1991 and has since undergone numerous renovation projects the most recent coming in 2019. The renovation in 2019 was designed to help the course play better in the shifting winds.

The tour plays the course at a par 73, 7,596-yard course. The course design uses the natural terrain and features some of the most spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean in the game. The course also features several strategically placed bunkers and water hazards, making it a great challenge for even the most experienced golfers.

This year’s tournament has a field of 39 players, and the current purse for the event is 15 million dollars. Below is a breakdown of the purse.

Everyday Golf Picks for the Tournament

Justin Thomas: Picking Justin to win it all shouldn’t shock anyone. Since 2019 Justin Thomas has won twice at the Sentry and has not finished outside of the top 5.  If I were a betting man (which I might be) he would be a lock at a Top-10 finish this week.

Collin Morikawa: Since coming to the  Sentry Tournament of Champions in 2021 Colin has finished T-7, T-,7, and was T-5 last year. Colin has not finished outside of the top 10 in this tournament. We think this could be the year that Colin has a breakthrough at this tournament.

Max Homa: Max doesn’t have the record like Justin and Colin at this tournament. Finishing outside of the top 15 every time he has played here. However, returning players always play well here and we love how Max’s came is trending so he is our pick.

Viktor Hovland: I felt like we picked too many USA players so we needed an international player. We would have picked John Rahm, however, John has been out of form as of late. So we like Viktor.

Underdog Pick- Sam Burns: Our sleeper pick or underdog pick is going to be Sam Burns. The same is coming off of a decent fall run of play. He is a solid player and plays well in the odds if you are looking to make some money.
