Its Time for Rickie Fowler to Leave Cobra

Updated: Dec 2, 2023

Rickie Fowler Cobra Need a Break Up

When Ricky Fowler joined Puma in 2010 & Cobra in 2012, it was all sunshine and oranges..? He is currently in the worst form of his career. Is it time for Rickie to join a better-performing brand?

Rickie Fowler Career Stats

  1. $40,615,864 Total Career Earning’s

  2. 5 PGA Tour Wins, 3 International Wins

  3. 14 career second places, 8 third places & 74 top tens

The dude has shown out his whole career. He doesn’t have the majors or double-digit career wins, but he was always in the picture. I wish I could say the same for his play the past couple of years.

Cobra’s Marketing Strategy

Cobra has developed this theme for wanting the new flashy player.  Look at the most recent example, Bryson Dechambeau. Cobra created massive marketing campaigns around the One Length Irons and booming huge drives; it was cool and flashy.

That is what happened in 2012-2013 when Cobra came out with the Amp Driver, and we have the Rickie Fowler orange everywhere. I bought one of the first AMP drivers that came out because of Rickie, and that was the driver I learned to play golf with (pictured below).

Cobra’s Current Tour Status

Cobra doesn’t have the best tour status. They currently have 9 total staffers. They consist of 4 PGA Tour Players, Lexi Thomson on the LPGA, Andrew Johnston on the DP World Tour, 2 Korn Ferry Players, and Kyle Berkshire, the Long Drive Champion.

I know the companies are different sizes, but 9 players are laughable compared to other manufacturers like Titleist, Taylormade, and Ping.

I know that this means Rickie gets more attention from a club designing point of view. Cobra met his needs by designing King RF forged irons that took over a year, and 33 prototypes later, they landed on the design Rickie liked… As of January 2022, he doesn’t even have it in the bag. He is playing the King Cobra MB’s.

Parting Thoughts

It’s time for Rickie to move on; let’s be honest, his Cobra relationship might be good, but his brand with Cobra is stale. He doesn’t seem to be striking the ball very well, and his putter, which used to be unstoppable, has gone cold.

You have guys like Justin Thomas, Jordan Speith, John Rahm, Viktor Hovland, and others who are playing lights out and sponsored by Titleist, Taylormade, and Ping.

I don’t want to see Rickie keeping trending in the down; I know his swing hasn’t been the same, and he keeps jumping coaches. We think Rickie would benefit from also getting a new equipment sponsor, and maybe that will help him boost himself back into being one of our favorite players to watch again.
